Eric Elkins was one of the nation’s premier high school hurdlers. He participated in numerous track and field events including: relays, hurdles, and jumping events and led Jesuit to multiple meet victories and TCIL State Meet Team Championships. He won the Houston Astrodome National Indoor High Hurdles event setting a new world record for a high school athlete in that event. He competed in the high school Golden West Invitational Track Meet in Sacramento, California where only the best in the nation competed. Eric was TCIL All-State in football and track, and was awarded All-American honors in track. A 3-year football and 4-year track letterman, Eric captained both the varsity track and football teams as a senior and was offered college athletic scholarships in both sports. Eric was recruited by more than 25 colleges and universities and accepted a scholarship to Texas A & M where he played football and ran track. Eric still holds the Jesuit High Hurdles record of 13.7 seconds. Eric was a dedicated physical therapist until his untimely death in 1997.
